Baptism
In the New Testament, we see believers in Christ being baptised. It is seen as a symbol of our dying with Christ and being raised again to new life (Romans 6:3-5, Colossians 2:12). As Christ followers they have passed from death to life. They now live a new life in Christ. This is symbolised in baptism by immersion. It portrays what has taken place in our lives.
In his Great Commission, Jesus said, “All authority in heaven and earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:18-20). Following this instruction of Christ, we believe that baptism is important in developing as one of his followers.
